Very concise, impressive guide to my RX10

I ordered this 486 page guide directly from the authors website because of Amazons temporary unavailability. I have a couple of the authors previous books which I have enjoyed and this book maintains the excellent standard of those previous books.
As a photographic enthusiast, I am very impressed with this book. It will take you thru every step of using this camera. It leaves no 'stone unturned' in the operation of this camera. From initial setup to concise explanation of every menu item. For the beginner photographer, especially, this guide in my view, will be very helpful. In chapter 2, the author walks us thru setting up Intelligent Auto mode from the menu setting (with the authors own suggested settings) to get the most out of that mode. And the author continues on with detailed discussions of all other modes.
The Table of Contents is 10 pages long which gives you an idea of the wealth of information contained therein. The Index is 20 pages. You've got a very good appendix on all available accessories. As well as an appendix of Quick Tips. There is one chapter of 35 pages devoted to just the physical controls. Accompanying each of 10 chapters are well illustrated pictures demonstrating the camera and its controls as well as all menus. By chapter 2 the photographer is ready to begin shooting if he so desires.
My point here that this book appears to be a well thought-out and well-written guide for both the beginner as well as intermediate photographer enthusiast.
I am very impressed with this book and I can see that a lot of work went into the preparation of this book. I was sorry to hear that author Gary Freidman had to cancel the writing of his guide for this camera. But the author of this book, Alexander S White, was able to complete this guide for us and provided a great guide for us Sony RX10 owners.

UPDATE: the Kindle version just came out the other day and it is every bit as good if not better than the paperback. I bought the Kindle version here on Amazon and I understand now that if you buy the paper format at Amazon, then you can buy the Kindle version at a deep discount of $2.99 here on Amazon. I use the Kindle format on my iPad Air and it looks and reads beautifully. Another advantage of the e-format is you can use the links available in the book a lot more readily than the paper format. And with the e-format I can take the book with me as I travel frequently instead of a bulky book.

The only guide you'll ever need for this camera

I concur that Sony should include this book with the camera. I look at it this way: You have spent a good deal of money on this camera; why would you not want to learn everything you can about what you can do with it? Even after using the camera for a month, I discovered new features and reasons to use them on nearly every page. You may not use every feature, but you will easily pick up some ideas that will become a new permanent part of your picture taking routine. Without patronizing the reader, with deliberate and careful organization, the writer dissects every nuance of this remarkable machine with clear, readable text, photos, and diagrams. When doing so, the author explains why the particular feature he is describing might be useful in specific situations. The intent of the book is obviously to explain the use of this camera in detail, but a secondary result is that the reader comes away with a greater appreciation and understanding of the photo taking process. Well worth the print edition to keep as reference.

The Manual that Should Have Come with the Camera

The Sony RX 100 M2 is a complicated piece of kit. The manual supplied in the camera box is completely worthless and the online version very awkward to use and vague on details. Alexander White has hit a home run with this publication. Using plain language and avoiding technical jargon, anyone can master the swathe of features packed into this camera after reading this book. This has saved me hours of wasted time trying to look up things on the internet. A must have for anyone who owns this camera. Note to Sony, hire this guy to write your camera manuals!
