Call this the spice encyclopedia, because that's what it is. No other book compares, and trust me, i've read em'all, and i wish i hadn't because this is the only spice book you need. In depth, personal, and right from the girls themselves, this OFFICIAL book is the alpha and omega of the spice history. This incredible quality bound book is packed with all sorts of pictures that you won't see anywhere else, and tells the REAL story, from birth to the movie. 'nuff said.

This is the Best book I have ever read!

I may not be a big book reader for my spare time, but I can tell you this is the best book I have ever read. I love the Spice Girls, and Ginger was always my fav, and to find out more about my favorite female in the world, well, is awesome. she is such a cool person and a great writter! I was talking about it at school once, and one of my classmates came up to me, and wanted to read it. she agreed, this is a good book! she couldn't put it down (as I couldn't, either!). it explains a lot, and fills in the holes as why Geri left the Spice Girls. this is her whole life story, and you also get to learn even more about the Spice Girls than you probably knew from before! oh, and if you have her solo album, you might not understand some of her lyrics- but once I read this, and listened to it again, the whole album made sense, and I could relate everything back to her book. it's awesome. a definte for spice girl fans.

The BEST book for fans

Real Life, Real Spice is a wicked book and has many never-before-seen pics any fan would love. If this book was awesome, then their first book, Girl Power! must be the same (I don't know-the publisher is out of stock on it). It brought you up close and personal with the Girls, and it made you feel as if you were a Spice Girl with them. Even if you don't really like the Spice Girls, it's an interesting book. I would recommend it to anyone. It has tons of great pics and talked about what they were like when they were little, how it felt being famous, and they give advice on how to be Spicy and have Girl Power! Long bios on your favourite Spice, and little details NO OTHER BOOK HAS! If your a Spice Girls lover, or Wannabe a Spice Girl, this is the Spice book you really, really, want.

Highly readable and thoroughly researched, Ride the Thunder profiles numerous American and Vietnamese warriors who sacrificed themselves and their families in the pursuit of freedom. Many paid the ultimate price in the effort to keep their country free of communism.

Reporters would fly into the combat base just long enough to film Marines being shelled and ducking for cover before flying out again to safe areas. Focusing only on dying US soldiers, the American media refused to cover the atrocities committed by the Communists against their own people. Despite thes horrors and the fact that the South Vietnamese were fighting desparately for their fledgling democracy the 93rd Congress pulled the plug on all US support and funding.

Even though the American troops were winning on the ground, it was the media and politicians, not warriors, who decided the outcome of the war.

An Original, Compelling History Everyone in American Should Read

The product description supplied by the publisher to Amazon does not begin to do justice to this marvelous new entry on the shockingly misunderstood war in Vietnam. Ride the Thunder is not a traditional single-volume history of the long and very complex combat-diplo-war in Southeast Asia. Instead, author Richard Botkin (a former United States Marine Corps infantry officer) carves off an important slice of the story, packing and filling around the edges to provide a contextual telling of the events in toto.

Botkin's tale centers on the little-told and virtually unknown story of a handful of American and Vietnamese Marines who fought against horrendous odds and arguably WON the war by stopping a brutal 1972 invasion by North Vietnam (known as the Easter Offensive). These same brave souls lived to watch diplomats and politicians insert the surrender rug beneath their feet, yank it out, and knock down the victorious edifice earned by the blood of tens of thousands of men and women (including 50,000+ young Americans).

Central to the plot are a few individuals and their daring exploits, chief among them Capt. John Ripley (whose jaw-dropping raid to blow up the Dong Ha bridge is told here better than anywhere else I have ever read); Maj. Le Ba Binh (a South Vietnamese Marine whose men fought off and beat back more than 20 times their number), and Lt. Col. Gerry Turley (whose strategic and tactical leadership and personal courage helped stave off what looked to be certain defeat, and then turn it into a victory). By the time you finish this book, you will know these men, their families (in most cases), and their hearts.

"Everything Americans know about the end of the Vietnam War is wrong," claimed the author in a publicly available interview. "From the American side, I think most people have a completely uninformed or misinformed opinion of the Vietnam War. Most Americans, including people who served in Vietnam, didn't appreciate the level of sacrifice of the South Vietnamese. These people love freedom." Indeed this is true. Very few in the West--even at this late date--appreciate what took place there, especially during the war's latter years. As Botkin documents, the Communists (NVA) routinely and intentionally used artillery fire to kill thousands of helpless civilians (including the young the old, and the sick). "They would even place high-value targets near civilian centers." If you pay attention to modern events, the similarity to tactics employed by Hamas, Hezbollah, and Al Qaeda will come to mind. Politicians, including Ted Kennedy, promised one thing and then cut off support, guaranteeing that millions of people in South Vietnam would endure a life of misery, near-slavery, and mass butchery. This backstabbing effort, developed inside Washington, D.C., also ensured that Pol Pot would have free rein to fertilize the killing fields of Cambodia with the blood of millions of his own citizens.

Why, then, were we in the America fed lies of the worse kind? "The communists were masters at using propaganda against us," Botkin explains. Freedom-seeking Vietnamese endured untold pain and suffering unimaginable to most Americans while Communists released propaganda lapped up by Western critics of the war. Communist = Good, American military = Bad. The obvious lies spun from salons in Hanoi (and even inside our own Capitol Building) fit the media-spun meme of the times. The parallel to what is transpiring now in Honduras is palpable. There was no military coup there, but the media insist otherwise, and average Americans are duped in the process. It is as disgusting today as it was in the 1960s-70s. And just as dangerous.

Ride the Thunder is fresh in every respect, well-written, and often thrilling. Most of it you have never read before. The final pages detailing the years of untold suffering endured by Maj. Le Ba Binh and his family are heart wrenching (and among the best in the book). I heartily recommend Botkin's book as an antidote to the monographs and storylines heretofore offered up as truth.

The Truth at Last!

I just finished reading this book and to be honest it brough tears to my eyes as I read about the heroism and sacrifice of the brave South Vietnamese and American Marines whose stories are told within its pages. As a Vietnam Vet and former US Marine, I found this book truly spellbinding and enlightening. Mr. Botkin is an exceptionally gifted writer who relates his story in a very compelling and entertaining way, filling every page with pathos, historical detail, action, and political insight. I personally know several of the participants in Mr. Botkin's book and he captures their personalities perfectly and in the most engaging way. Their acts of courage will inspire any reader who values the traits of a warrior. There is no need to resort to hyperbole when Mr. Botkin tells the story of several key participants in the defense of Quang Tri Province during the 1972 TET invasion by the North Vietnamese. Each of these participants, both Vietnamese and American, are larger than life heroes. Their stories are told in this book for the first time - and what stories they are! If you have an interest in the Vietnam War and would like to know the truth about how bravely our South Vietnamese allies fought and why they ultimately lost the war, this is a book you must have. I also highly recommend it for anyone with an interest in the human aspects of combat and the enduring triumph of the human condition despite overwhelming odds. In short, I consider this one of the very best books ever written about the Vietnam War.

101 Log Cabin Blocks: With Full-size Pattersn for Paper orFoundation Piecing

This book was a big hit with both my daughter and myself. I was pleased with the large variety of blocks and the easy to understand instructions. My daughter loved it so much it is temporarily living at her house! It is a great book to help use up scraps and the blocks can be made into a great variety of items.
This book is suitable for beginners as well as experienced sewers.

Log cabin with a twist!

If you love paper piecing and you love log cabin blocks you will love this book. This book contains 101 full size patterns for traditional and modern variations of the log cabin block. Most of the blocks are 7" square. Some of the other sizes are 4",5" and 6" squares, 6" x 8", and 7" x 8" rectangles. There is some instruction provided in the beginning of the book in case you are not familiar with paper piecing. That only takes up about 8 pages of the book. This is mostly a pattern book. The biggest tip I can give anyone who paper pieces is to use really good paper. If you try doing it with regular copy paper, you will get frustrated because it is not so easy to tear off afterwards. My favorite paper is: Carol Doak's Foundation Paper. It works wonderfully!

paper piecing quilt book

This book has LOTS of patterns for different quilts and if you like to paper piece - it's wonderful. You should probably have some quilting experience before buying the book, but it's also great for beginners. The full size patterns make it easy to create something that looks like you've been quilting a long time.

Not the next part after Zombieslayer

I am a huge fan of Gotrek and Felix. Last year when the anthology came out, I feared that Nathan Long might not be continuing if Black Library was letting other authors pen stories. Now that this book was released by one of the authors from that anthology...well I decided to try it.
First off, this does not continue the story from Zombieslayer. In fact, it takes place somewhere back in the first books by William King. I had a hard time placing it, then just gave up and I am now considering it as a side story.
Edit the first: I just read up on Josh Reynolds blog, this is supposed to take place just after Trollslayer, the first book. And this, and the other stories that are coming out are supposed to be non continuity. And that the main story is on hiatus. So, in that light, I am less confused and can see this book in a better frame of mind.
Edit the second: So after going back and rereading Trollslayer, this follows Gotrek and Felix's characters pretty good for that period of their travels. But the author still missed both of their signature weapons characteristic runes glowing in the presence of warp magics and daemons.
Overall, this is a well written story and good for those who may not have read much of Gotrek and Felix before. For those who have followed the saga, go back to the first book to reacquaint yourself to a younger Felix and harsher Gotrek. It makes for a much better read.

Unsure of the timeline and new writer

Ok, this book is not terrible....Josh Reynolds has written a few shorts about Gotrek and Felix, and now is apparently taking the helm after Nathan Long....who himself took over from William King. My problems with this book relate mostly to my disappointment of not having a continuation of the tale left off at Zombie Slayer. I was honestly really hoping to read more of Snorri Nosebiter and Katarina. I haven't read the other stories Josh Reynolds wrote about Gotrek and Felix, so I can't say how his other work fares. He gets it partly right, so it obvious he has read at least some of the preceding works.
When does this story take place in their saga? Felix has Karaghul, Gotrek has one eye. I think it takes place some time before Skaven Slayer? If so, then why do all the other slayers refer to Gotrek as a 'doom thief'? We haven't met all that many other slayers before Skaven Slayer and Gotrek hasn't stolen the dooms he would in the stories in the omnibuses. Also, much is made of his axe, which we know (or heavily suspect) is Grimnir's own axe. We readers find that out much later. Lastly, Gotrek's obsession with his doom and frustration at failing to meet it seems more informed by all the others stories that have been written before than should exist when the story is based.
To be fair, Gotrek can be hard to write for. He has a past, a secret shame much hinted at, many adventures, surliness, honor, many other things that I love about this character. In this book, there is little humor, no drunk Gotrek, and a Gotrek that doesn't feel right.
Felix, the character we hear from, we can say we know more of. Felix is an accomplished deadly swordsman, who is always worried this is last fight, despite his skills. This book plays that worry to an irritating degree. Why is Felix refered to now a 'Remembrancer' rather than a 'Rememberer'?
I did like a few things, Canto the Unsworn as an enemy has a story to tell. It also involves the chaos dwarfs, which I have not read much about, Khorreg the Hell Worker is another character in need of fleshing out. Biter the Slayer is some of the only, very welcome, humor. Battles are fun and bloody, and Reynolds gets Gotrek being an engine of carnage right.
My last gripe is pretty much with all Warhammer books, every battle massacres so many troops, be they Empire or Dwarf, that you wonder how the Empire can exist, or the slow breeding Dwarves have any holds left? It just gets exhausting....whole armies massacred by the forces of Chaos, Greenskins, Skaven, undead, etc, etc....
Please please Black Library follow up after Zombie Slayer.

Readers who are very familiar with the main characters may find themselves disappointed.

Karak Kadrin is in the Worlds Edge Mountains and is ruled by Slayer King Ungrim Ironfist. The Slayer King and the dwarfs of Karak Kadrin protect the gate, fighting off any dark forces that attempt to pass through it. Now the largest Chaos horde to spill out of the north since the time of Magnus the Pious is at their door. Slayer Gotrek Gurnisson and his human companion, Felix Jaeger, arrive to find Karak Kadrin under siege. This is led by the warlord named Garmr Hrodvitnir, who intends to unleash Chaos unlike any known before.

As an army of Slayers head out to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Gotrek and Felix are forced to remain at Slayer Keep. According to the aged priest, should Gurnisson march toward and meet the Chaos army in battle, he will find the death he seeks, but the world will die with him. This, of course, does not sit well with Gotrek.

** TWO STARS! I am a big fan of the Gotrek and Felix series. I look forward to each release, eager to read the next adventure. I have come to enjoy Gotrek's surliness, his jumping into the middle of any battle, and his scowls - to name only a few traits I adore. As for Felix, I am very familiar with his brave and skillful fighting. I now rely on seeing Felix by the Slayer's side no matter what comes. The human is a bad a...Well, he is deadly, especially with a sword. Occasionally the pair will have company in their travels. One such companion is Snorri Thungrimsson, a Slayer who is usually crazed and refers to himself in the Third Person. There is no one else quite like Snorri.

This story has all three of these characters that I enjoy so much; however, none of them are portrayed correctly. Gotrek is not as moody and he does not put away the ale like water. Felix spends most of his time in battle on his tail. He barely parries swings from his opponents and is constantly being saved by others. Felix does not seem to remember how to fight until late in the story. His spine finally stiffens about the same time. Up until then, Felix mutters under his breath and when Gotrek asks what he said, Felix actually cringes and apologizes. There are no snarky remarks to earn Gotrek's displeasure or even much of a scowl. Snorri is not the insane comic relief who goes berserk in battle. In this story he is very serious. He is the King's hearth-warden, his Reckoner, and his Remembrancer. Snorri is the King's right-hand. He advises King Ironfist, helps strategize, and is a total bore.

Though the characters do not act normal, the battlefield still runs red with blood. Readers who are not already familiar with the characters will probably love this story, but diehard fans may find themselves irritated. **

A terrific puzzle workbook similar to Where's Waldo!

This is an entertaining workbook that teaches a child to focus, remember and identify items on colorful pages. The story is very entertaining and the skills developed here will lead to good study habits and strong attention to detail. My 6-year old and I laughed and had such fun as he found the items and solved the puzzles. Excellent busy work for a trip!

We have read this over and over and over

My daughter got this for Christmas. The only other book in this series we read was Puzzle Ocean (borrowed from the library over the summer). She is 3, nearly 4, and we have read it many, many times since Christmas. I would definitely recommend if your child is into solving things and finding hidden objects. A couple of the pages (specifically one which requires some math) are out of league for now, but I know it's a book she'll keep coming back to for years to come. Also, the version we received was very nice quality--extra thick pages and a padded cover.

Must Read for a Commercial Grower.

If you are going to grow hops on a commercial scale, this book is a must read. Though the information is a bit old, many of the concepts still apply today. It provides and indepth and scientific look at growing hops.
