Best Math Curriculum out there!

This curriculum has been such a major blessing for us and our son. He was struggling with ACE, which required a lot of help from my wife and I. We finally decided to try something different and went with Saxon. We bought this, along with the matching DIVE CD. Now, he has gotten caught up and is several weeks ahead in a little over 2 months! The lessons have problems that overlap with previous concepts, so that the student sees all the concepts multiple times to truly help them learn the material. My son actually enjoys math now, which is the biggest endorsement of all!

We are homeschoolers and have been using Saxon Math for four years. If you get this book, you will NOT need Algebra 1/2, as this book ends with all of the skill sets needed to go into Algebra 1. We never used the solutions manual, but everything else is necessary to teach and learn.

If you do and internet search for the Battle of Carrhae of for books on the topic you will find little other than cursory treatments. That's one of the reasons that Gareth C. Sampson's book is valuable resource on the battle. But the book, now in its second edition, is not just worthwhile for its analysis of the battle, but also for its coverage on Marcus Licinius Crassus' long career and the rise of the Parthian Empire... ... As for Carrhae itself, Sampson does an impressive job of weighing the merits of the accounts of the battle by Plutarch and Cassius Dio. Sampson painstakingly presents them side by side throughout his battle narrative. He goes to great lengths to show the strengths and weaknesses of each and where they veer into fiction rather than fact. Plutarch's account is far more reliable even though suffering from its own limitations, such as the continuing controversy surrounding what actually unfolded during the Roman retreat from the town of Carrhae toward the relative safety of Syria and Armenia. Sampson is at his best when he describes how Crassus paid the ultimate penalty for a campaign that initially underestimated the Parthians and spiraled out of control once the Romans met the Parthians in battle. About the Author
After a successful career in corporate finance, Dr. Gareth Sampson returned to the study of ancient Rome and gained his PhD from the University of Machester, where he currently teaches ancient history. He has made a detailed study of early Roman political history and in particular the political office of the tribunate of the plebs. He is currently engaged in a study of the power struggles and the civil warfare of the late Republic and its expansionist policies in the east.

This is a very well written, balanced, and well researched book about an important historical event with lasting ramifications for the history of the ancient world and its subsequent development.
Mr. Sampson does a superb job providing the necessary backgrounds and highlighting the important developments that ultimately led to the clash between these two major powers of the first century BCE, Rome and Parthia, at Carrhae (Harran). The portrayal of the relevant personalities throughout the narrative is excellent and the arguments in support of the author’s case are fresh, balanced, and sober.
I highly recommend this work to all students of history.

The book is very informative but somewhat dry. The defeat of Crassus and its bad consequences for Roman/Western civilization are barely treated by most historians. I was surprised at how well Cassius fought against the Parthians after the defeat given his subsequent rout by Octavian and Mark Antony in the 1st civil war after Julius Caesar's murder.

About the Author

Lionel Ponsard studied at the Universities of Louvain, King’s College London, and Leiden where he obtained his PhD in Political Science. In 1999, he joined the Belgian Ministry of Defense as a Political Advisor and held several management positions at the Belgian General Staff, mainly in the area of political, security and defense issues related to the former Soviet Union. He is currently Deputy Chief of the Academic Research Branch with the NATO Defense College. He has published a number of articles in English, French and Russian on post-Soviet issues and transatlantic relations in various academic journals.

Can't get enough of this series

I'm so enjoying catching up with the gang.

I just love the interaction between them all, how dynamic each couple.

Their personalities came through I love all their funny little ways, their quirkiness.

Loving everyone's response on hearing Skye's news, and also their understanding of keeping it from Carson. I agree!

Awe Slade and Trinity, how far they have come, he seems to work through the situation. He is a truly lovely man.

Trinity is one very lucky lady, he really loves her and is willing to put her first with all things even if he is struggling to come to terms with the right answers. They both get there in the end.

Oh no, poor Arsen I had an inkling the woman would be from his past, still looking forward to how that situation ends.

Ahh, it all becomes clear for Lexie, just when Conrad finally realises they have something worth having, she has a devastating blow with her parents, then she sees her dad whilst out - OH NO!

Sean and Scarlet are such a great couple, I love hearing about their shenanigans, he is a very proud, independent man and as a wife dealing with a convalescing husband, believe me I have been there! Scarlet is handling it very well, I had a similar situation arise; I left my husband for one night after he thought he was 'well' enough to go back to work.

Ending with the exact same situation hubby turning up where I was, to talk and have dinner.

I love that although this is fiction we get real life situations, where everyone of us readers identifies with some part of the characters stories.

In for a penny in for a pound

Slide needs to realize trinity is a spoiled brat and he can do so much better than her!!! It irritates me that he puts so much effort into being perfect for her and she takes it for granted or acts like it's her way or the highway...I'd really love to see him and Dee create feelings for each other..cayson is sweet I really hope things start going right for them, they deserve it....I'd also like Beatrice to tell Conrad to go fly a kite instead of be her "big brother" it's annoying the mix signals he gives off. I do feel bad for Conrad that he won't have biological kids because lexie had maternal paranoia after Jared. Aside for that and a few grammatical spelling errors it was great. Can't wait for next week.

This book is not only scholarly but also proclaims the glory of Jesus Christ in an incredibly convincing way. Of all the books on Biblical Theology that are out there, this one is consistently exegetical and deserves to be on top of the list.

Awesome book but you better have your Bible open to ...

Awesome book but you better have your Bible open to keep up ;-) This book definitely opened my eyes to many ideas concerning the visions of Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Paul and John and how they are inter related to provide a whole complete picture. My understanding of the book of Revelation has benefited a great amount as Dr. Chou is able to point out many connections within the Bible that most people like myself tend to overlook. Additionally I was amazed by the number of references he quoted and explained in putting this book together. I should warn you that this is not the usual "read it in 2 or 3 days" book, as you will find yourself drawn into reading the bibliographies and going to your Bible to pull together everything you are being taught. Great book.

VERY INTERESTING TOPIC

I took Dr Chou's class on Biblical Visions. Now I will read his book on the same subject. He weaves together the visions of Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Paul and John. This book will be a great addition to my Kindle Biblical reference library.
