Definitely a hidden gem

I read this series of books perhaps 15 or more years ago and have wondered ever since why no one has made a movie of them.
The story line is " faction" and as you read through the series of books it becomes more enthralling (and scary) to think Harbinson put this together using factual material. Some parts of the story can be a little tedious to read through but mostly the pace keeps one very interested and eager to continue.
This is to me the essence of good science fiction, all the time there is an edge in the storyline that keeps coming back into ones mind, what if some of this really is true, factual, it puts a whole new slant on answering the question where do flying saucers come from.
I think this author has not gained adequate recognition for the quality of these books and I was glad to see them gain some more exposure. Try the first in the series, Project saucer, and I bet you will be hooked.

More believable origin than Zeta Reticuli

"Projekt UFO" provided some great research material for a program I produced and hosted at Tsiyon Radio called "Flying Saucers a Sign?". This book presents a far more believable origin for flying saucers than Zeta Reticuli - with the added advantage of being real documented history. As you will see when you read this book, flying disk technology was conceived and developed right here on planet earth. In modern times the underlying scientific theory originated with Tesla in the 19th century. However, it took the pressures of WWII to cause the Nazis to explore the development of "wonder weapons" by which they might defeat an enemy of vastly superior numbers. The need for such weapons was largely responsible for NAZI openness to unique ideas and alternate scientific theories that were otherwise being overlooked. It was in this climate of highly funded and facilitated NAZI R&D that real flying disks went from theory to actual working proto-types under NAZI development. Unfortunately for the Nazis, but fortunately for the rest of us, the surging tide of the Allied advance overtook the Nazis before they could put their wonder weapons into production, bringing the NAZI war machine to a screeching and ignoble end. Soon a mad scramble was underway among the Allies to scoop up the futuristic technology along with the NAZI scientists, engineers and technologists that had created it. Beginning in 1945 the USA scooped up more than its share of these highly prized NAZI criminals, sanitizing hundreds (thousands?) of them via the ministrations of Operation Paperclip, to keep them working on the very same technology they had been developing over there - only over here instead. No sooner did the NAZI team get settled in at White Sands in New Mexico than abracadabra - flying saucers began to be sighted here! The technology has been kept "deep black" all these years through the use of the ET UFO cover story. How far this technology has been developed in the intervening years boggles the mind. Google "TR-3B" to get some idea of where billions of dollars and decades of time have taken this technology - no aliens required. Bottom line: read this book to get past the moronic "alien" cover story to the real history of man-made flying saucers.

It's a pretty good update on the hypothesis that UFOs originate from some terrestrial source. After all, it would take years to reach any other solar system even if one could travel at the speed of light, the supposed cosmic speed limit according to relativity. The Star Wars movies (and some others science fiction) assumed this was possible, but it would require accessing dimensions whose existence is not established or even speculated upon by any scientists.

The big question is what, if anything, the operators of these UFOs will do to prevent humanity from destroying planet Earth? The consequence of continued exponential growth. This book does not speculate on such issues. It sticks to what little we have in the way of fairly reliable data. Do any national intelligence services know more?

Magic

The magic of love. It's not always so straightforward, or easy as one hopes. Sometimes it's hard work every week, for months. Digging in dirt, splashing in water, hopping a fence or two... love doesn't always hit you like a bolt of lightning, sometimes you simply realize it's warmth has built into something special... like magic.

I loved this book, as I do all of Sunday's books. It was full of wonderful humour, fun believable characters, and a real way of viewing love and relationships. Although, every once in a while I'm jealous of how wonderful some of these amazing characters are. I mean, Jase is so dedicated and sweet! A great read!

Very cute and enjoyable story. Easily recommended

I actually got this back in November but ignored it until recently. It’s a really cute, well-written story that kept me guessing where it was going to go. Looking back I can see where it was heading all along but I appreciated the writing and construction such that it could have taken numerous twists. It’s been a while since a story surprised me and I really liked not knowing what could happen next. The characters are decent, but two-dimensional and a little flat. The dialogue is cute and the supporting cast makes a nice little novella to read and has me curious about other books by the author. I’d easily recommend it – $1.50 for a novella, which makes it really cheap – and it’s a fun, entertaining story.

Jase is the first person narrator living in New Zealand as a landscaper. He is mid-20s and has an early teens younger brother with whom he is very close. The brother, Scott who is an adorable character, is mature and intelligent and stays with Jase on school breaks and such. Jase has a crush on his neighbor, Noah, and soon realizes that Noah’s friend Dave also has a crush on Noah. The two men subtly compete for Noah’s attention and Jase decides to come up with the most unique and surprising Christmas gift ever. It’ll take about a year to pull off entirely so he has time to work his way up to confessing his feelings for Noah. That is if Dave hasn’t gotten there first.

The pseudo-love triangle is an amusing angle. It kept the story going and the plot could have gone in many different directions. I think there were too many ambiguous clues to really guess the outcome ahead of time but that didn’t bother me. I liked that the story created some doubt about the outcome. The cast was all inoffensive and interesting enough men without really standing out. They weren’t bland but they weren’t really dynamic either. I enjoyed reading the story and liked Jase as a narrator but I think it may have gotten slightly stale as a longer novel. Instead the shorter novella length was perfect. The first person narrator does limit the amount the reader gets to know any of the other characters. It is especially obvious that Jase’s bias is present when the other men are described. However, Jase is a good guy and although he’s wildly jealous of Dave and Noah, he tries hard to be fair to Dave. Watching the men circle around each other was amusing.

I had a few issues with the story, though only minor problems at best. The first was that I didn’t know the narrator’s name for several pages. This is definitely minor but since the names of the other men are being bandied about, including an insignificant character in Jase’s boss, I wished the story had just been clear and worked a way in to say his name upfront. That way I wouldn’t have been distracted from the story trying to figure out a small detail. Additionally, Jase acts kind of spastically. He’s attracted to Noah but practically leaps away from the guy repeatedly out of nerves and hyperawareness. I knew he would explain eventually but it was kind of over the top.

That said there were many great scenes: Scott’s insistence on the lizard; the trick with the fir trees; the swimming lessons; dead of night scene with a hiding Jase when Dave discovers him. This is simply a charming novella with good characters, a satisfying ending, and some fun discovery along the way. Although set in New Zealand I didn’t get a good feel for the landscape so I would have liked more description but I’m not complaining. This is definitely a better than average novella for the genre and at this price, it’s worth it. It’s one I would read again.

Unexpected

Anyta Sunday manages to write books that catch your heart as well as catching your breath. This one was no different, but also was entirely different. The characters were real. They were endearing and flawed. And while the ending is my favorite if happily ever after, it is surely not expected. Sorry for being vague, but the plot is too precious to give away in a review.

Thrilling and educational read.

This three part book series on Russian criminal tattoos is the result of a Soviet prison guard’s research. Danzig Baldaev didn’t intend to become a prison guard; he was forced to take the job under the Soviet regime. His ancestry is an illustrious one, and his family is an illustration of Russia’s history. His ancestors were Mongols who became Christians, and had a perfectly good relationship with the Russian Czar. They were tough people, always ready to defend their families and property from the escaping criminals who frequently entered their area. But Communism destroyed his family; some fought for the Reds, others for the Whites, and they were both agents and victims of Soviet cruelty. Danzig would grow up in a boarding school for children of “enemies of the state,” most of whom came from educated bilingual families. As an adult he would be assigned (by law not by choice) to be a prison guard. For decades, he drew the prisoners’ tattoos. This book is the result.

The tattoos in this book are entirely political. The all have the same imagery; cats symbolize thievery, and the thieves were the top dog in the jails. Stars refer to the number of years served, and playing cards represent risk. But the designs show a great deal of anger as well. Anti-Soviet images are commonplace, with the faces of Lenin, Marx, and Stalin drawn with horns. Anti-Jewish and anti-Asian motifs figure among the tattoos, because the Asian and Jewish people were probably seen as unwanted foreigners. Nazi swastikas and SS runes are frequent, because they symbolize contempt for the Soviet system. A tattoo of a nude woman means that the wearer hates his last girlfriend, perhaps she betrayed him. American symbolism is common in this book as well. Skulls and cats wear cowboy regalia, the Statue of Liberty is shown covered in barbed wire. It appears that the anti-Soviet criminals looked at the USA a beacon of liberty, and since they hated the Soviets and the Soviets hated the USA, it was the perfect statement.

Soviet Justice was harsh. A teenage boy who got drunk and punched someone could get six years in jail, and on getting out would have no idea how to ask for a job or be on time for work. The depressing life of the Soviet Union probably drove people to alcoholism, and that would’ve led to crime. Food was scarce and people must have been hungry enough to steal from officials. I also have to wonder how many kids were born with fetal alcohol syndrome.

My hat’s off to Danzig Baldaev for keeping this archive. You can learn a lot about a society by studying the prisons, and it makes sense to judge a nation by how they treat the prisoners. As for the book itself, it’s part of a three part series, plus a set of cards that come with it. Perhaps we’ll soon see books on prison tattoos from other nations as well.

Eye opening

Eye opening into the culture of Russia and it's underground language of tattooing. In America, tattoos are seen as freedom of expression and the free-natured thought. In Russia, it's a rite of passage and one's personal history written on their bodies. The hand tattoos sysmbolize is the most interesting. Explains a lot about the tattoos seen in the movie "Eastern Promises."

About the Author
For Elaine N. Marieb, taking the student’s perspective into account has always been an integral part of her teaching style. Dr. Marieb began her teaching career at Springfield College, where she taught anatomy and physiology to physical education majors. She then joined the faculty of the Biological Science Division of Holyoke Community College in 1969 after receiving her Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. While teaching at Holyoke Community College, where many of her students were pursuing nursing degrees, she developed a desire to better understand the relationship between the scientific study of the human body and the clinical aspects of the nursing practice. To that end, while continuing to teach full time, Dr. Marieb pursued her nursing education, which culminated in a Master of Science degree with a clinical specialization in gerontology from the University of Massachusetts. It is this experience that has informed the development of the unique perspective and accessibility for which her publications are known.
�
Dr. Marieb has partnered with Benjamin Cummings for over 30 years. Her first work was Human Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory Manual (Cat Version), which came out in 1981. In the years since, several other lab manual versions and study guides, as well as the softcover Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology textbook, have hit the campus bookstores. This textbook, now in its Ninth edition, made its appearance in 1989 and is the latest expression of her commitment to the needs of students studying human anatomy and physiology.
�
Dr. Marieb has given generously to provide opportunities for students to further their education. She contributes to the New Directions, New Careers Program at Holyoke Community College by funding a staffed drop-in center and by providing several full-tuition scholarships each year for women who are returning to college after a hiatus or attending college for the first time and who would be unable to continue their studies without financial support. She funds the E. N. Marieb Science Research Awards at Mount Holyoke College, which promotes research by undergraduate science majors, and has underwritten renovation and updating of one of the biology labs in Clapp Laboratory at that college. Dr. Marieb also contributes to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she generously provided funding for reconstruction and instrumentation of a cutting-edge cytology research laboratory. Recognizing the severe national shortage of nursing faculty, she underwrites the Nursing Scholars of the Future Grant Program at the university.

In 1994, Dr. Marieb received the Benefactor Award from the National Council for Resource Development, American Association of Community Colleges, which recognizes her ongoing sponsorship of student scholarships, faculty teaching awards, and other academic contributions to Holyoke Community College. In May 2000, the science building at Holyoke Community College was named in her honor.
�
In January 2012, Florida Gulf Coast University named a new health professions facility “Dr. Elaine Nicpon Marieb Hall.” With the help of Dr. Marieb’s generous donation, this facility contains laboratories in the School of Nursing that simulate an operating room, intensive-care unit, a labor and delivery room, and general medical surgical suites. She has also established a scholarship endowment for non-traditional students in the health professions, and an endowment to enhance the activities of faculty, students, and staff within health professions to support education, research, and community outreach.

Dr. Marieb is an active member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Additionally, while actively engaged as an author, Dr. Marieb serves as a consultant for the Benjamin Cummings Interactive Physiology� CD-ROM series.
�
When not involved in academic pursuits, Dr. Marieb is a world traveler and has vowed to visit every country on this planet. Shorter term, she serves on the scholarship committee of the Women’s Resources Center and on the board of directors of several charitable institutions in Sarasota County. She is an enthusiastic supporter of the local arts and enjoys a competitive match of doubles tennis.

Lori A. Smith received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California at Davis. Before discovering her passion for teaching, she worked as a research scientist and project leader in the medical diagnostics industry. In 1999, she joined the faculty at American River College in the Biology Department.� Currently she teaches anatomy and physiology and microbiology to pre-nursing and mortuary science students at American River College. Starting in 2005, she began co-authoring Pearson’s PhysioEx: Laboratory Simulations in Physiology and has continued to co-author several versions of the software and lab manual. Dr. Smith has been awarded “Instructor of the Year” by the American River College Associated Students for her commitment to serving students, and she is a member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT).

Usually I am extremely satisfied with my rentals but this came with writing all over the inside. Let's put it this way, the person was no Tom Riddle, because the notes were mostly incorrect which completely ruined all expectations I had about being a first year student, the dark wizard who may have owned this title and finding books that are vandalized. Then again community college only feels like Hogwarts when I pay my tuition. Either way... 4 stars because it's usable.

Excellent... very worth the Readers' time

"Lewis & Clark and the Indian Country”: The Native American Perspective edited by Frederick E. Hoxie and Jay T. Nelson

Being a “perspective”, this work naturally includes insights to be contemplated and bias to be criticized. The insights in this book are ample, important, thought-provoking, and deserve plenty of contemplation. The bias is chiefly the age-old “White equals Bad, Red equals Noble” bigotry and hypocrisy that has characterized the writings of Indians and their allies forever. That is to say it is “old news” and should be set aside in order to glean the most from the insights.

I’m certain the reader will agree that the editors have done an admirable job of cutting through the mythology of the Lewis & Clark expedition. In doing so, they have brought the reader to a vantage point that puts the expedition and its’ impact into “3-D”, so to speak. It’s like they’ve “IMAX’ed” the Corps of Discovery and its’ place in the real America of 1803-06. But I don’t want to spoil the fun… except, perhaps, to say this…

The editors seem to have undergone an epiphany of sorts – a realization of the unseen impact Red/White contact then, and since and now. They seem to sense that, in spite of its’ twisted, twining path over the passed century, the Life of the native peoples is still in them. They are still Themselves. The 21st chapter, titled “Language Preservation” recognizes Language as the soul of a People (“culture”, if you will) and comes closest to articulating that epiphany. In fact, the reader might do well to read that chapter first and then go back and read the book through. And, in fact, White readers might do very well to ponder whether all American citizens need to achieve a similar epiphany about our lives too. Our national government is doing many of the same things to all of us that it did to indigenous Americans in the 1900s, especially with regards to our children.

Great book for getting the other side of the story. Most literature referencing the Lewis and Clark expedition is from the perspective of colonialism. This book uncovers the Native American perspective.

Douglas Witherup serves as the Executive Director of Church Ministries for his tribe of the Assemblies of God in NC, helping to lead ministry for over 300 churches across the state. He also contributes as a Teaching Pastor at cfa Church and as an adjunct professor at Southeastern University and Trinity Bible College. Doug has a B.A. from Southeastern University, an MTh. from the University of Wales, Bangor, and a DMin. from George Fox University. Doug, his wife Camden, and two children, Cade and Ana live in sunny North Carolina where they love to spend time outdoors.

BOTH AND

I don't mind listening to John Clayton (an ESPN football analyst) talk about the NFL action behind the scenes. I appreciate his insight on the implications of a star player being traded. But I wouldn't listen to him talk about proper form-tackling. He's a scrawny guy that has (presumably) never played a down of football in his life. In the same way, I don't want to read a book about preaching from someone who isn't a great preacher.

There are some folks that are brilliant academics and can speak deftly about the theology of preaching but may not be great preachers themselves. Others are great preachers but aren't too bright. Dr. Doug Witherup is both. He is an academic and is brilliant in his handling of the topic. He moves deftly through the content and I can promise you that you will learn something new on every page. Doug is very well read on a broad range of subject matter and it makes for a fun and enlightening reading experience. But perhaps most importantly, Doug is a phenomenal preacher. He has been preaching his entire adult life and that gives the book a unique credibility. He comes to the topic with wealth of practical knowledge and you will come away feeling empowered to go out and use what you've learned.

As an added bonus, Doug is a fine writer. The book is engaging and funny. You won't want to put it down.

There is no way that you won't be a better preacher after reading this book.

Powerful Simplicity

Through the years, I have been taught the fundamentals of preaching, how to develop preaching outlines and how to study the Bible from front to back and back to front, but never have I seen the approach given by Dr Witherup. "Interrobang" preaching; The name itself even leads to the main point of it's message. Creating an interest and a curiosity that keeps people wanting more. Dr Witherup's approach is not some new gimmick or novel idea, however I believe it opens up a new insight into the basic fundamentals of communication that Jesus Himself used 2000 years ago. Somehow in our efforts to remain Biblically accurate in our messages, we have become Biblically ignorant in our methodology. I can assure you, if you are a communicator of any kind, the principles of this book will give you a fresh perspective on how your words become either powerful or powerless when they reach the ears of your audience.
I have listened to Dr Witherup preach and often wondered how his presentation of the same text that I had preached in the past come out so powerful; now I know. I have began to implement some of his methods and have gotten responses from people like "that is the best message I have heard in years" and "Wow, that message opened my eyes to things I have never noticed before".
Take the time to read this book, you'll be glad you did!

It is a great resource for ANYONE desiring to become an effective communicator

Few books grab my attention they way "Interrobang Preaching" has. It is a great resource for ANYONE desiring to become an effective communicator. Having personally heard Dr. Douglas Witherup preach and teach, I would liken him to any of the greatest TED Talk speakers. His ability to communicate an "ancient-future" method of speaking, sets this book apart from traditional preaching resources and brings the reader into the mysterious discovery of the Jesus style of communication. I have personally used it as a training resource for our "groups" leaders with great success. Big AL has done it again! (With some help from Keith) Yes, both of them have put their heads together to help the rest of us!! I am a why, guy and love the first part of this book which explains the why and how, then they teach us EXACTLY what to DO EVERY DAY to be successful! Thanks Guys! Easy to read, but packed full of great tips to increase productivity and make success almost automatic. Practical and informative without being preachy like some in this genre. Best of all, the three easy habits recommended are just that ----easy! And effective. I am encouraging my downline members to read this and put it into practice for a stellar 2017!
